Electrovision Gig 23/5

I will be performing with Micromattic as part of Electrovision on Saturday 23rd May at Roxy Bar and Screen (map).

We’re on at 11:25. Also performing are Blinkin Lab, Labmeta, AV8, Amoeba and Dub KULT – all of who I’m looking forward to seeing. Many thanks to Dr. Mo for organising.

Looks set to be a wicked night – see you there!

Been spending a lot of time in bed the past few days. Sick as a dog. Tried to capture this scene, not sure I got it right at all. But hopefully you can see how pretty the evening is here.

How to Share MIDI / OSC Over a Network

Perhaps I’m the last person in the world to find this one out, but here goes anyway…. I’ve been working with Micromattic the last few months. We’ve now managed to sync up a whole bunch of MIDI and OSC data between our Mac’s over Ethernet / WiFi from Ableton Live to VDMX.

Sharing MIDI Clock with Audio MIDI Setup over Network Discovered this one last night. I can’t really justify spending on an audio interface at the moment, just to share MIDI clock data. So found this alternative.

Get some sort of network connection established between the two Macs – WiFi, or Ethernet.
Open Audio MIDI Setup which can be found in Applications -> Utilities
Double click on the purple Network icon in Audio Midi Setup
A new window will appear. Set up a network connection and port (we chose one at random)
Set the Routing controls to take MIDI from Network: networkname to VDMX on the VJ computer, and from Ableton Live to Network: network name on the DJ computer
In Ableton, check your MIDI preferences. On the device list should be Network: networkname, make sure to enable the clock option.
In VDMX check on Listen for Midi Clock in the Clock window:

And you’re done! You’ll notice our latency was at 0ms, which was fairly surprising! We found the BPM would shift about a bit, but when Niko closed a few apps such as his browser, the BPM was constant.
